Carrier Route
Postal carrier route is a group of addresses to which the US Postal Service assigns a postal carrier. Typically, each carrier route is related to where a particular mail carrier delivers.
9-character carrier route codes have the following structure:
XXXXX (ZIP code) + X (letter for the carrier route type) + XXX (carrier route number) = 9-character carrier route code
There are five types of carrier routes, with each type represented by a letter:
• Boxes Only (B)
• Carrier Routes (C)
• Highway Contract Routes (H)
• Rural Routes (R)
• General Delivery (G)
You can limit the results of your search to records containing ZIP+4 information within the carrier routes that you specified. For more information, see Order Only Records with ZIP+4.
1 On the Geography tab, click Carrier Route.
2 In the ZIP column, enter a 5-digit ZIP code. In the same row specify which carrier routes within this ZIP you want to add to the search. You can enter:
• Carrier route codes (one letter and four digits). For example, you can enter 33904 in the ZIP field and codes C001, C002, and C003 in the carrier routes text boxes in the same row.
• Carrier route types (B, C, G, H, or R). In this case the system displays all the records for the given carrier route type within the selected ZIP code. You can enter multiple letters for each ZIP. For example ZIP=01001 crrt=B and crrt=C returns all B and C Carrier Routes in 01001.
To clear the text boxes of all entries, click Clear All.
1 On the Carrier Route page, click Look Up.
2 Enter a 5-digit ZIP code in the ZIP text box.
3 Specify the type of carrier route. To search for all carrier route types, select All.
4 Select carrier route codes that you want to include in the search. To select all the displayed carrier routes, click Select All check box.
5 Click Add Selected Routes.
